Business Almost As Usual
5 September 2007 Despite the ongoing problems associated with the Equine Influenza, staff at Baerami Thoroughbreds are trying to stay positive and move forward during this difficult time. The highlight of the stud season so far is the enthusiasm that CALIFORNIA DANE has taken to his new life. Like so many first season sires around the country, CALIFORNIA DANE could not quite believe his luck when told what his new role was. He leapt (yes, pun intended) into his new job with great vigour so we know his libido is perfect, that dismount samples look wonderful under the microscope and that the spell of fine weather has over 10% of his mares residing on farm carrying service. We now all wait for those all important first pregnancy scans.
I must say that Baerami is completely biased but we always viewed CALIFORNIA DANE as being one of the most attractive first season sires in the country. With the shuttle stallions now locked away in quarantine we ask the question - who is a more attractive first season sire in Australia? Even the hardest judges would certainly have CALIFORNIA DANE ensconced in the top 3 chances of being the leading first season sire, especially in light of the quality of mares he was receiving even prior to the EI epidemic. And this will also be a factor at the yearling sales of 2010. When the sales companies ask themselves which first season sires progeny should fill up their catalogues you can be guaranteed that CALIFORNIA DANE will be at the top of the list.
Many of you will have received a DVD showing off his blitzing performances at the track and you would have to agree he looks the ultimate professional and most likely a producer of early fliers. At $11,000 (inc GST) per service he is fantastic value and we welcome any enquiries you may have in relation to service bookings or a breeding analysis for your mare.
DANASINGA continues to do what he does best. It may not be sexy, it may not grab headlines but it works, it value adds your stock and it makes breeders a profit. Don't forget he averaged 80k at the majors this year, up 60% on last year by the way and was still an Easter sale stallion where a son became Jack Denham's only yearling purchase of the year at 160k. DANASINGA has had Easter yearlings since 2000. Pick up your old Easter catalogues and see who has fallen by the wayside since the year 2000, look at how many high priced and high profile stallions have failed since then and the devastating effect those failures have had on the broodmares involved and you will see why we like DANASINGA so much. He may not be sexy but he works.
Saturday saw another result that makes us proud of this good looking boy. THE FUZZ ran himself into contention for all upcoming Spring races with a tough effort full of merit. Unhappy in the run and under pressure on the corner, this expensive purchase for the David Hayes stable never shirked the issue and it took a Group 1 winner who had won group races at 2 of his last 3 starts to defeat the son of DANASINGA by the shortest margin imaginable, in doing so denying DANASINGA stakes winner 24. We're fairly sure that win is not far away. We are also very excited about the upcoming Hong Kong season with the amazing HAMLET'S GHOST and the exciting SINGING DINERS waiting to show their wares.
Also standing this season at the stud are the mighty UNIVERSAL PRINCE and exciting MURPHY’S BLU BOY
