MR CLANGTASTIC WINS A THRILLING WYONG CUP

Red hot stayer Mr Clangtastic stretched his winning streak to four when he led throughout for a thrilling win in the $123,000 listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) today.

The bold front runner pulled out just enough over the final furlong to hold out Lodge the Deeds and Enzedex Eagle in a driving finish.

It was a fine training feat from Marc Conners considering the gelding hadn't race since making it three straight wins at Randwick in late July.

Conners said he was surprised that jockey Craig Agnew had not allowed the six-year-old to roll further in front during the race's early and middle stages.

"He was a bit closer than he had been at his previous runs," Conners noted. "He's be five, six, seven lengths in front (in those)."

"He was only a couple of lengths in front today and it gave them a fair shot at him."

"All credit to Craig and the horse - they got home."

Conners was particularly pleased the Clang gelding was able to find the line first, considering of the large gap between runs and knowing how much improvement he would make with this effort under his belt.

"He was vulnerable today because he hadn't run for six weeks. Next time we'll be better."

Mr Clangtastic, another successful graduate of Vern Raynor's Classic Bloodstock syndication outfit, is turning out an incredible money spinner for connections.

The tough gelding now has eight wins and eight minor placings from his 32 starts and his earnings have shot to $342,360.

That's an incredible result considering he was purchased for just $10,000 from the draft of Baerami Thoroughbreds at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.

By the former smart sprinter Clang, the sire of Group One winners Calaway Gal, Clangalang and Black Piranha, Mr Clangtastic is one of four winners from his dam Soverina.

A winning daughter of Sovereign Edition, Soverina is a sister to the Group One Thousand Guineas winner Savoir as well as the dam of stakes winners Garuda and On the Beach.

One of her half sisters, the four time winner Duchesne, is the dam of the Western Australian Oaks winner Matriculate.

The Wyong Gold Cup wasn't the only feature race today won by a Magic Millions graduate.
